Bio
According to some, I'm avant-garde ;)
I try to stick to software development and engineering topics, often related to application development, but I also shitpost random stuff, occassionally about photography, (usually not more then) react to politics or economics.
My website is https://zlatko.dev but I less completely-infrequently post a photo or two to my photo gallery https://photos.zlatko.dev.
I also used to post at https://pixelfed.social/zlatko, and https://programming.dev/u/zlatko, and I'll occassionally swipe here and there.

I get the appeal of generated images, but I don't get why some people went all in. It's not...appealing.
rant against scraper bots, nothing useful for ya probably
The damn AI scrapper bots are ruining more and more of the internet.
swcombine.com is the latest small community affected (that I'm a personally aware of)
Fucking thousand-fold increase in traffic. And you can't do much about it.
I wish the European commission would go two orders of magnitude beyond what they occasionally do well, impose strict limits on scraping, and threaten to just shut down the company and put the C-level in prison, for repeat offenders.
Some managers would probably still be willing to risk stuff for money, but I don't think VC funds would be willing to risk their billion dollar investments.
But, that's just utopia.
I always liked these days when I'm doing something physical, get really exhausted. I then go on out, for a walk or a run or something (for a beer back in the day), and then on a long boring walk home, just feel spacy and weird. Good weird though. The brain roams to such incredible places.
Speaking of bookshelves...
We installed some, to encourage the boys to read even more...
It worked, P. started reading one of the old series... from book 17 onwards! Boohoo dude you're supposed to restart the series from scratch every time!
I know it's not a ThinkPad, but do I still get some credit?
Notes on the new KDE Linux (alpha just got released) from this article:
- immutable distro, based on mkosi
- can't extend the base image like Fedora atomic
- UEFI only, Wayland only, they only look forward
- the old KDE Neon was held down because it's Ubuntu LTS base, it's tricky to build and use on top of modern stuff
- they have good ideas, even end of life is built into the project (if they ever decide to shut it down).
Mostly it's a showcase distribution, "how KDE is meant to be used", but it's also supposed to be perfectly usable for day to day.
I'm sticking with KDE on a regular Fedora, that's bleeding edge enough, and it's flexible enough for my piddly fiddling. But I think it should be okay to install it to grandpa's computer instead of windows, for example.

If you like staying up late surfing through wikipedia links but find it just a little too... factual, look no further
What an ad :)
