I'm reading this article on "Two factions of cpp", and while C++ isn't my primary language, I very strongly resonate with this particular snippet:

You’ll notice that the main difference isn’t about C++ itself at all. The difference is tooling and the ability to build from versioned source in any clean, well-defined manner. Ideally, even the ability to deploy without needing to remember that one flag or environment variable the previous guy usually set to keep everything from imploding.

Product, baby. Product will get you your salary. And when you sell a product to the customer, you don't expect them to have to assemble half of it themselves, if they're supposed to be doing anything useful with it.

And even you-six-months-from-now yourself is one customer.
