jump to expanded postOff to the new adventures! AltGr has rearmed and re-equipped, tended the crops, and returned back to the newly discovered shore. He built a karve, but this time he bypassed the foul swamp lands. He went directly accross the sea.
He even found a nice patch of Meadows on the next island, but AltGr ignored it as "too boring, we need to find the Elder". Wait, the next island? How many of them are there?
Nevertheless, AltGr sailed on, good wind in his sail, until he reached yet another distant shore. There was another patch of the swamp, damn it. Let's move a bit northwards go around it to find that Elder, AltGr thought.
He did not find another land, but he did. This was a strange land, not exactly Meadows, but also not the Black forest. Plains, if he remembered the old maps correctly, the lands of dangerous creatures. It looked like there's a village in the back, should he go and ask for directions?
AltGr would not risk it. He held valuable resources in his Karve, things for buildiing a portal back to home, for when he found the Elder. He decided he'll sail along these "plains", until he found a safer land.
And a strange land it was. A bit further down this coast, there was an interesting fort. It seemed occupied, so AltGr dared not explore it. He had a mission. Much later in the day, when rains started falling, and he lost his wind and had to manually paddle, he saw signs that it was a good decission. Another of these villages, this time with some vile celebration. It looked like fires in the distance.
AltGr sailed onward into the afternoon, and just as the night lowered its curtain, there was another cursed Swamp ahead. So much for finding Elder today.
AltGr checked his map. He was close to the Elder, he thought. But all around him was this cursed Swamp, or the dangerous Plains. When he finds a patch of Meadows, he'll land and set up camp.
His ship was already well battered, he needed repair soon, as well.
The sea was wild with stormy winds around him. Suddenly, in the blinding lightning, AltGr spotted a bit of the black forest! Is this finally a place to land? But no, as he approached the coast, he saw these strange Fulings, beating the pants off Greydwarves. If two of the little creatures could do that to a dwarf brute, what chance did he, AltGr, have?
Sail on until morning.

In Odin's name, what was that noise? No! In the blackness of the night, AltGr's Karve has ran aground! Quickly, let's try to reverse out of this! Especially since there is a Fuling dwelling right there at the cost, not 50 meters from him!
Wait, what's that? One of the creatures has spotted him! Faster, AltGr, you dull and rusty battle axe, he thought to himself! He's bound to be attacked in moments. Luckily, AltGr has managed to run away! Fighting these beings, on their turf, in the middle of the cold night is definitely not something he wanted to do.
At this point, AltGr was sailing a full day and almost a full night. He took a quick bite and sailed onward.
The morning did not bring anything better. AltGr sailed past the plains, but found swamp again. He briefly considered landing there to fix his boat, but there were too many of those damned Draugr creatures. They were too dangerous for him.
And a bit past that, there was still plains again! Odin forsake you, barren island!
Well, perhaps not entirely barren. In the distance, AltGr has spotted a herd of huge creatures. If he remembered his history properly, those were called Lox?
Will this cursed plains ever end? AltGr kept sailing into the day. He was already very tired, he almost crashed into the island ahead of him again - in the broad daylight! But he did not dare debark here! It was too dangerous!
He sailed on. Later into the evening, he spotted another herd of Lox. And in the sunset, there was a new thing! A Deathsquito! This thing was incredibly dangerous, AltGr could tell just by the damage done to his Karve! It looked hard-hitting, but very fragile though, so AltGr grabbed his axe and quickly chopped down the creature! He saw something like a needle drop to the bottom of the sea.
This is now really, really dangerous! His boat was almost fully destroyed by that Deathsquito! Even at the risk of a running into another one, AltGr had to stop! But not here, let's find a safer land.
What's that ahead? A bit of black forest? But it's in the middle of the night, and the eyes are flashing in the night. Plus, the little patch of forest was surrounded on one side by plains, and on another by swamp!
Sail on.
Soon, there was another patch of Black forest. Even if it was night, AltGr dared to stop.
Strange to think how just two days ago, he thought that the black forest in the night is the most dangerous place, and now he was welcoming it!
AltGr landed, and was welcomed by perhaps 10 Greydwarves. He was stronger now, though, more experienced. He dispatched of them quickly, and finally fixed his boat.
By tyhe time the morning came, AltGr already had a small shack built. But he was also tired. Two days and two nights, without rest. He needed to go back. He decided he will use the Surtling cores he planned to use for the portal for the Elder, and just go home. He built a portal, and went home.
There, he had to tend to his two small carrot fields, restock the furnaces that were even now melting the copper he hauled, he tended to his bees. Then he went and slept througout the night.
The damn Elder be damned!
AltGr continued his travels in the morning. First, he wanted to climb on the hill above, to see his little camp below.
A few more steps uphill, to get a better vantage point, but hey! Mountain! AltGr has never been on a mountin in this life, yet. However, it was freezing, so he had to quickly run back to the shoreline. He got back to his Karve, and started sailing further south.
But only after a few minutes, he noticed a strange land again, all foggy and misty, somehow.
Mistland!
AltGr knew from his grandmother's stories that this was an even more dangerous land! He knew he had to sail around this part of the island.
At first, he kept his distance. A few hours of boredom later, he dared get closer. He even managed to pick up some new crops, Jotun puffs and Magecaps!
Soon, a patch of plains replaced the mistlands, and ominously he spotted remains of another boat. Who knows who got lost in these lands before? Better not to stop!
AltGr sailed past the plains, and found more mistlands! Odin damn it, how long is this island?
Darkness fell, and he ran across some foul creatures again. Seekers! They made quick end of the poor AltGr.
@zlatko Tragedy!! 😲
@dgar no, life in the realm!

I love when you get the longship, sailing past Plains at full sail makes you too fast for the deatsquitoes attack and they get squished by the rudder hardware. It's like going for a drive in summer.
@Theriac heh, I need to get to the swamp with this character to be able to sail a longship :) and to do that, I need to find the elder and beat it, so I can go to the swamp :)
@zlatko@social.zlatko.dev
ahh no you just need to find a swamp and know how to build a chair :D
@Theriac True, true :) But I had a week off so I wanted to just play, no powerleveling or rushing or anything, I just slowly go around and look at stuff. I mean look at this thread :)

When I saw you mention spotting a misty area, I found myself in a quandry - is this dramatisation for narrative or should I say something? :D
@Theriac @dgar actually I was sailing for like an hour and just taking a screenshot every now and then, then later I cropped and posted the most interesting ones :)
Usually I'm interactively "narrating", but it's hard and/or annoying to have to stop a boat, then post screenshots and a comment, then go back to sailing.
I know that feeling!
And what an adventure! I bet poor AltGr's heart was pounding hard. So glad he got to safety.
Deathsquitos are nasty, nasty critters.
